Two Purdue Crew student-athletes will represent the United States in the 2018 FISU World University Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China this summer. Crew members Henri LaLiberte and Nick Schmidt will compete as members of US Rowing’s delegation. The championships will take place Aug. 10 – 12 and will be hosted by Shanghai Jiatong University. LaLiberte and Schmidt will train together on Ford Lake in Ypsilanti, Mich. May 31 – Aug. 3 and will compete in the U.S. Rowing National Championships July 11 – 15 at Cooper River in Camden, N.J. prior to the world competition.

The financial burden of traveling to the championship regatta falls on the student-athletes and coaches of the team. They will have to pay out-of-pocket unless team members can raise money through donations and sponsorship. Each student-athlete is fundraising to support their travel to the event. Funds raised will be used to offset the expenses of participating, including coaching, equipment and airfare.
